Lactation Consults

I am available for lactation consults in your home. I will assess mom, weigh and assess the baby, and observe and evaluate a feeding. You will receive a written plan of care. Prescription medications may be ordered if necessary.

I am affiliated with several local obstetricians and the billing is handled by the physician's office. You will be responsible for the copay at the time of the consult (if applicable). I accept whatever your insurance pays for the services I provide, and you will not be billed for any further amount at any time. Referrals, depending on your insurance plan, may be needed for the baby. Call for further information.

What if my insurance company says they don't cover lactation consults?

Lactation consultants are not licensed providers recognized by insurance companies, and their services are often viewed as "educational" rather than medical. However, since I am a nurse practitioner, I practice what is often called breastfeeding medicine, caring for medical problems related to breastfeeding. These services are and have always been covered when provided by a physician or nurse practitioner.
