Is Your Baby Getting Enough Milk?

Start with day one, or whenever you are able to begin this chart. Each time you feed or change your baby, mark the time in the appropriate box. In a 24 hour period, a newborn should wet AT LEAST one diaper for each day of age, and, after day one, have two or more bowel movements. For example, if your baby is 3 days old, he should wet at least 3 diapers in 24 hours and have 2 or more bowel movements. Once he is 6 days old, he should wet between 6 and 8 diapers and have at least 2 stools in a 24 hour period. By day 5, the stools should be mustard-colored (the dark, tarry meconium will have cleared out of his system). Bowel patterns may change after the first month. If your baby is not having this many stools or wet diapers, you should inform your health care provider.

Newborn Babies Need to Nurse Very Frequently

Your newborn needs to nurse at least 8 to 12 times in 24 hours for the first 2-4 weeks.
