Lactation Consults
I am available for lactation consults by email or over the phone. I will assess mom, weigh and assess the baby, and observe and evaluate a feeding. You will receive a written plan of care. Prescription medications may be ordered if necessary.
I am in network with the following insurance companies:
- Aetna
- Anthem
- Blue Cross Blue Shield
- Cigna
- United Healthcare
I submit the claims, you are only responsible for the copay at the time of the consult (if applicable).
What if my insurance company says they don’t cover lactation consults?
Lactation consultants are not licensed providers recognized by most insurance companies, and their services are often viewed as “educational” rather than medical. However, since I am a nurse practitioner, I practice what is often called breastfeeding medicine, caring for medical problems related to breastfeeding. These services are and have always been covered when provided by a physician or nurse practitioner.
